Cohorta

Safety & community guidelines

Cohorta is built on real communities. Feeling safe is essential to making it work. This is the plain-English version of our Community Standards and Reporting & Complaints; those pages are the full, authoritative versions.

What's not tolerated

We remove content and, where needed, people, for:

  • Harassment or abuse: unwanted persistent contact, insults, intimidation, or pressuring someone after they've said no or unmatched.
  • Hate: attacks on people for who they are: race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
  • Sexual content without consent: unsolicited sexual messages.
  • Nudity or sexually explicit photos on profiles: swimwear is fine, explicit isn't; profile photos are seen by your whole community.
  • Threats and violence: including encouraging self-harm.
  • Scams and impersonation: fake profiles, catfishing, asking members for money, or pretending to be someone else.
  • Under-18s: Cohorta is for adults only.
  • Sharing others' private information: screenshots, addresses, or anything else that isn't yours to share.

The full list, with definitions, is in our Community Standards.

How reporting works

  1. Tap the member's avatar, then Report profile.

  2. Choose the reason that fits, and tell us what happened:

    1. Fake profile or pretending to be someone
    2. Harassment, abuse or hate
    3. Sexual or explicit content
    4. Sharing an intimate image of me without consent
    5. Scam or asking for money
    6. They seem to be under 18
    7. Something that happened off the app
    8. Something else
  3. Every report goes to Cohorta Support. Group owners and group admins never receive reports, never see who made one, and never see the evidence. Where there is a concern about someone's behaviour we may ask that group's owner about it; if we do, we give them only the member's name and the general concern, never who reported them and never the evidence.

  4. Reporting is confidential: the person you reported is not told.

  5. We review every report and a person decides what happens next. Reports involving a child, and reports of an intimate image shared without consent, go to the top of our queue; where the law requires it we report content to the National Crime Agency.

  6. We will tell you what we have decided where we can, and you can appeal at support@cohorta.me if you're unhappy with the decision. You can appeal if we act on your account, if we take down something you posted, or if you think we haven't acted on a report you made. For anything unsafe or illegal, contact us directly as well.

Reporting a member happens in the app and goes to Cohorta Support. Questions about using the app go to the Member FAQ first, then your community's Facebook group, and technical problems come to us by email, never to the group or its admins. See Contact & support.

What happens after a report

Depending on what we find, we take no action (with an explanation), issue a warning, remove content, or impose a ban. Serious matters can be escalated to the police or other authorities. Blocking is always available and instant, whatever we decide.

A ban takes effect immediately: access ends at once and the subscription is cancelled, so it does not renew again; the month you are in is not refunded, except where the law requires it. Whatever the reason, we tell you what we have done, why, and how to appeal.

Meeting in person

  • Tell a friend where you're going.
  • Meet somewhere public the first time.
  • Arrange your own travel there and back.
  • If something feels off, leave, and report it to us afterwards if it involved another member.

If you're in immediate danger

Contact the police (999 in the UK). Then tell us at support@cohorta.me so we can act on the account involved.
